{"id":70661,"date":"2015-04-05T05:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-04-05T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hillside.work\/sec\/staging\/the-rt-rev-dr-robert-gillies-bishop-of-aberdeen-orkney\/"},"modified":"2015-04-05T05:00:00","modified_gmt":"2015-04-05T04:00:00","slug":"the-rt-rev-dr-robert-gillies-bishop-of-aberdeen-orkney","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hillside.work\/sec\/staging\/the-rt-rev-dr-robert-gillies-bishop-of-aberdeen-orkney\/","title":{"rendered":"The Rt Rev Dr Robert Gillies, Bishop of Aberdeen &#038; Orkney"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Rising threats in the world<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In his Easter sermon\u00a0preached in both Aberdeen and Braemar\u00a0the Rt Rev Dr\u00a0Robert\u00a0Gillies addressed the rising threat of militant extremism in all parts of the world and <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">will reflect on a world which he says is one increasingly characterised by a deepening sense of foreboding. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Citing the massacre at Garissa University in Kenya\u00a0last Thursday Bishop Bob says &#8220;The reality is, and none of us can hide from the fact, that the world is becoming a deeply more dangerous place than it was a generation ago. G<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">lobally, there is a worrying cocktail of discrimination and intolerance marked by persecution and potential elimination; and this is the actual life experience of many for whom, not all that long ago, peace was the norm.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;It is the characteristic of the Christian never to lose that sense of hope which even in life\u2019s darkest moments yields something to hope for.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In his sermon he parallels the way in which people are facing this current situation with the desolation faced by the small group of women who, in the bible accounts of Jesus\u2019 death, walked in darkness and in fear to his grave uncertain of what lay ahead of them.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bishop Bob will conclude his sermon by saying &#8220;to walk on in darkness in faithful obedience to do what needs to be done even when hope <\/span><i><span style=\"color: #000000;\">seems<\/span><\/i><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> non-existent is what has to be done, for no other reason than this is what faith requires.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Rising threats in the world In his Easter sermon\u00a0preached in both Aberdeen and Braemar\u00a0the Rt Rev Dr\u00a0Robert\u00a0Gillies addressed the rising threat of militant extremism in all parts of the world and will reflect on a world which he says is one increasingly characterised by a deepening sense of foreboding.
