{"id":70749,"date":"2017-09-21T14:12:00","date_gmt":"2017-09-21T13:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hillside.work\/sec\/staging\/preparing-primates-meeting-prayer-diary\/"},"modified":"2017-09-21T14:12:00","modified_gmt":"2017-09-21T13:12:00","slug":"preparing-primates-meeting-prayer-diary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hillside.work\/sec\/staging\/preparing-primates-meeting-prayer-diary\/","title":{"rendered":"Preparing for the Primates Meeting: A Prayer Diary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fscottishepiscopalchurch%2Fvideos%2F10155338949048891%2F&#038;show_text=0&#038;width=560\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowTransparency=\"true\" allowFullScreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As the Most Rev Mark Strange, Bishop of Moray, Ross &amp; Caithness and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church prepares for his first Primates Meeting (in Canterbury 1-6 October) he is asking congregations and churches across Scotland to engage in an act of prayer alongside him in the days leading up to the meeting in Canterbury.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday 29 September the Primus will spend time in prayer and meditation in St Mary\u2019s Cathedral, Edinburgh (in the Lady Chapel) from 11am until 2pm.\u00a0 There will be a short Eucharist celebrated at 1.05pm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Sunday the 24<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDear friends across the Province, in my capacity as Primus I am preparing for my first Primates Meeting, the meeting is held in Canterbury from the 1<sup>st<\/sup> to the 6<sup>th<\/sup> of October. At the meeting, there will be many issues and points of debate, some which may be more difficult than others. I am therefore asking if our congregations and churches across Scotland would engage in an act of prayer alongside me in the days leading up to my journey South.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Merciful God,<br \/>\nFill your servant Mark with grace and power,<br \/>\nthat he may always be ready to proclaim<br \/>\nthe good news of salvation.<br \/>\nFill his heart with love of you and your people,<br \/>\nThat he may feed and tend the flock of Christ.<br \/>\nGive him humility, and defend him from all evil,<br \/>\nthat he may exercise without reproach the office of Primus,<br \/>\nUsing its authority to heal, and not to hurt,<br \/>\nto build up, and not destroy.<\/p>\n<p>Accept our prayer through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord,<br \/>\nto whom with you and the Holy Spirit belong glory and honour,<br \/>\nworship and praise, now and forever. Amen<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Monday the 25<sup>th <\/sup><\/strong><strong>&#8211; Finbarr of Caithness<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Today we pray for the Scottish Episcopal Church, our church.<\/p>\n<p>On this the feast day of St Finbarr of Caithness we give thanks for those who had the courage to bring the Christian faith to this nation. \u00a0We rejoice with those who have listened to the voice of the holy spirit as the church has woven itself amongst the culture and people of this land. \u00a0And we give thanks as we continue to reflect on the generosity and diversity of the people of Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>Everlasting God,<br \/>\nwhose servant Finbarr carried the good news of your Son<br \/>\nto the people of Scotland:<br \/>\ngrant that we who commemorate his service<br \/>\nmay know the hope of the gospel in our hearts<br \/>\nand manifest its light in our lives;<br \/>\nthrough Jesus Christ, our Lord,<br \/>\nwho lives and reigns with you,<br \/>\nin the unity of the Holy Spirit,<br \/>\none God, world without end.<br \/>\nAmen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Tuesday the 26<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Pray for the Primates. \u00a0Today as we pray with our Primus, we pray also with the 39 Primates of the Anglican Communion. \u00a0We pray for those who will be in Canterbury and pray for those who are unable to join us. We pray for matters of Ecumenical concern and relations with those of other faiths. We pray for the Anglican Consultative Council and all who work in our offices, churches and communities<\/p>\n<p>Merciful God,<br \/>\nwhose servant Vincent de Paul,<br \/>\nby his ministry of preaching and pastoral care,<br \/>\nbrought your love to the sick and the poor:<br \/>\ngive to all your people a heart of compassion<br \/>\nthat by word and action they may serve you<br \/>\nin serving others in their need;<br \/>\nthrough Jesus Christ our Lord.<br \/>\nAmen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Thursday the 28<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>We pray for Archbishop Justin as he leads and guides the Primates Meeting. \u00a0We pray for him with the burden of leadership and pray that he may find joy in the fellowship and collaboration of the Primates.
