{"id":71190,"date":"2021-03-26T11:31:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-26T11:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hillside.work\/sec\/staging\/joint-call-to-prayer-sunday-28-march-at-7pm\/"},"modified":"2021-03-26T11:31:00","modified_gmt":"2021-03-26T11:31:00","slug":"joint-call-to-prayer-sunday-28-march-at-7pm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hillside.work\/sec\/staging\/joint-call-to-prayer-sunday-28-march-at-7pm\/","title":{"rendered":"Joint Call to Prayer for Palm Sunday, at 7pm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>At the end of a week during which we have marked the one-year anniversary of lockdown, the Scottish Episcopal Church and 13 other denominations join together in prayer at 7pm on Palm Sunday, as they have done on Sundays throughout the year of the coronavirus pandemic.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many of those joining together in prayer, which appears in English and Gaelic below, will also light candles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we stand at the threshold of the final journey of Jesus into Jerusalem and on towards the Cross, we find ourselves in the company of those who have gone before us on that journey. The \u2018great crowd\u2019 who enter into Jerusalem are those who gather for the annual marking of the Feast of the Passover. They come to remember and to give thanks for the enduring love of God. One of the Psalms used in the Feast opens with the call: \u2018O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his steadfast love endures forever!\u2019 In turn, the Psalmist cries: \u2018Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord.\u2019 (Psalm 118: 1, 19)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the Gospel of John, we see Jesus entering Jerusalem and welcomed, as one \u2018who comes in the name of the Lord!\u2019, with shouts of \u2018Hosanna!\u2019 and \u2018palm branches\u2019. (John 12: 12-16) The cry \u2018Hosanna!\u2019 shall soon be replaced by \u2018Crucify!\u2019 and the \u2018palm branches\u2019 by a Cross, but in faith we believe that \u2018the enduring love of God\u2019 shall remain unvanquished.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn this Palm Sunday, we stand on the threshold of a time of renewal within our community and in the life of the Church and we join the company of all God\u2019s people to give thanks for the love that endures and conquers even death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We pray:<\/p>\n<p><em>God whose love endures,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Hear us as we welcome the One who comes in the name of the Lord.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Hear us, as we remember<\/em><br \/>\n<em>All that you have done in times past<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And give thanks that your enduring love has embraced even us.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Lord, in your mercy,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Hear our prayer.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>God whose love endures,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Hear us as we welcome the One who comes in the name of the Lord.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Hear us, as we gather in the company of your people,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Or in company alone with you,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And lift up our voices to cry: Hosanna!<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Lord, in your mercy,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Hear our prayer.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>God whose love endures,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Hear us as we welcome the One who comes in the name of the Lord.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Hear us, as we journey<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Through the week that is to come.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>May we journey in the presence of the One who goes before us, even to the Cross.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Lord, in your mercy,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Hear our prayer.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>God whose love endures,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Hear us as we welcome the One who comes in the name of the Lord.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Hear us, as we listen to the voices<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Who now cry: Crucify!<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And may we know it was for us he hung and suffered there.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Lord, in your mercy,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Hear our prayer.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>God whose love endures,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Hear us as we welcome the One who comes in the name of the Lord.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Hear us, as we wait<\/em><br \/>\n<em>For the dawn to break <\/em><br \/>\n<em>And for your enduring love to vanquish the darkness.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Lord, in your mercy,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Hear our prayer.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Signed by:<\/p>\n<p>Most Rev.
