Daniel is a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics for Engineering Applications at the University of Edinburgh. His teaching and research is focused on the development and application of mathematical methods to real-world problems. His current research focus is on the decarbonisation of thermal energy systems which is a research area that requires input and advice from computer scientists, engineers, architects, economists and social scientists. He is the thermal energy theme leader in the Energy@Ed initiative which tries to facilitate collaborative sustainable energy research. He leads an interdisciplinary EPSRC project in seasonal thermal energy storage and is a collaborator in a large GCRF project about sustainable cooling infrastructures. As a first generation academic, he is keen to contribute to the widening participation movement and is involved in the STEM ambassador programme and the Athena SWAN self-assessment team of the School of Engineering.
