Erik is an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Photonics and Quantum Sciences at Heriot-Watt University. His research focusses on nano-structures displaying uniquely quantum mechanical behaviour. This is motivated by his fascination with the weirdness of the quantum world as well as the prospect of next generation quantum technologies for energy, sensing, and information processing. He is particularly interested in bio-inspired quantum technologies and quantum-enhanced photovoltaics. Erik’s research is of cross-disciplinary nature within physics and beyond: it explores the interface of condensed matter physics, quantum optics and information, and extends into the fields of computer science, chemistry, and biology.
