Katie Gibson Smith

Dr Katie Gibson Smith is a Research Fellow in the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition at the University of Aberdeen.  She is a Chartered Psychologist and mixed methods researcher with experience in focus groups, interviews, questionnaires, consensus methods and systematic reviews.

Katie is particularly interested in the application of theory to research and has worked in a variety of areas: educational inequality (widening access to medicine); wellbeing and resilience (in doctor and offshore workers); health inequality (homeless and rural populations); promotion of self-care (in offshore workers); pharmacy practice (accessing pharmacy services and managing medicines); and, experiential healthcare student experiences.

Whilst Katie has a broad research background her interests principally lie in addressing health and educational inequality, and promoting wellbeing.  She enjoys collaborating with others from other sectors and disciplines, and using her knowledge of psychological theory to inform research designs and enhance understanding of findings.
