Dr Manuel Fernández-Götz is Head of Archaeology and Reader in European Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh. After completing a binational PhD between Germany and Spain, he moved to Scotland in 2013. His main areas of interest are Iron Age and Roman societies, the archaeology of identities, the materiality of mobility processes, and conflict archaeology. His research has included aspects such as the origins of the first towns in temperate Europe, the archaeology of the Roman conquest, and approaches to migrations in late prehistory. In 2016 he was awarded the prestigious Philip Leverhulme Prize and since 2017 he is a fellow of the Young Academy of Europe. He has directed fieldwork in Scotland, Spain, Germany, and Croatia.
