YAS and UK Young Academy members gather to Create Connections in Scotland

|

YAS and the UK Young Academy (UKYA) members came together for the first time at an event at the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Held as part of the Royal Society’s Creating Connections conference, this meeting aimed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among members of these two organisations.

The event programme consisted of two informative and interactive sessions to provide opportunities to share best practice for Young Academy projects and explore opportunities for collaborative work.

Session 1: Lessons from the Young Academy of Scotland

During this session, YAS members presented examples of their work and projects to their UKYA colleagues. Presentation topics included the Charter for Responsible Debate, Children’s Voice, and an upcoming project on unpaid caring in Scotland. Through these presentations, YAS members not only showcased their project outputs but also shared insights into the process of creating interdisciplinary, public benefit initiatives. They discussed challenges they encountered and learnings from tackling those challenges.

Session 2: Collaborations between YAS and the UKYA

In the second session, members of both academies engaged in semi-structured discussions in mixed groups. This interactive session served as a platform for exploring opportunities for joint activities, enabling participants to exchange ideas and establish connections.
