Claire is a civil servant with a strongly international theme to her career and currently leads the Scottish Government’s International Division. They work to build Scotland’s connections and external network with the world beyond Europe, including through their development partnerships and humanitarian relief fund. They work in line with Scotland’s national performance framework to internationalise their work and thinking across all policy areas, with a strong human rights focus.  Claire moved to Scotland in 2016 and prior to that worked in the now Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, serving in Delhi and Ankara as well as in London.  Her roles centred on international economic policy and the European Union, including representing the UK on the European Diplomatic Programme. She studied Classics and retains a keen interest in how a sharing of culture and history can enrich contemporary debates.
