Douglas leads a research team that focusses on understanding the mechanisms that regulate endometrial (womb) function and how these can become dysregulated in common reproductive disorders that affect millions of women. He is interested in improving understanding of women’s health disorders in order to develop new treatments that have the potential to benefit women’s wellbeing and impact on health inequalities that persist due to lack of research in this area.

His team’s research aims to understand how signalling molecules called hormones can control inflammation in the womb and how this might affect women’s reproductive health. Using clinical samples and innovative experimental models, they investigate how hormones change the function of key cell types that are important for fertility and reproductive function.
