Fiona is the Head of Research Development and Partner Engagement for the Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow. Her role is to collaborate with academic leaders to enhance the vibrancy of the research environment, connect people and ideas, and support individuals to have successful careers.

As an engineer by professional and academic background, Fiona stepped into social science in 2015, with respect and some trepidation. In a world that needs researchers from all disciplines to bring their expertise to bear on societal challenges, and to forge equal partnerships, her work now centres on brokering partnerships that radically span disciplines and sectors. The practice of how to best do this, to make a systemic difference to the quality of research and its ability to make positive change in the world is Fiona’s key professional challenge.

Fiona also writes poetry. Shortlisted for the Glasgow Women’s Library Calm Slam in 2021, Fiona’s work has appeared in the Dreich anthologies ‘Summer Anywhere’ and ‘Afterwards’, and most recently in Poetry Scotland, and the Poet’s Republic.

Tha Gàidhlig aig Fiona agus tha i toilichte conaltradh a’dhèanamh ann an Gàidhlig no Beurla.
