|

Kate is Lecturer in Art History and Co-Director of the Centre for Contemporary Art at University of St Andrews. She is working on her first book about art and visual culture during Ethiopia’s revolution (1974-1991). Her broader research and teaching encompass modern and contemporary art from the African continent, legacies of colonialism in Scotland, and histories of African art and ethnographic materials in Scottish collections. She holds a PhD from Stanford University, and MAs from the Courtauld Institute of Art and University of Edinburgh.

Kate is the lead on an ongoing collaborative project to rehabilitate a long-overlooked, public collection of African modern art on the west coast of Scotland. She is passionate about diversifying access to Art History, and about widening participation in the arts and museum sectors more broadly.
