Maria Dornelas is a macroecologist who combines theory and innovative data to quantify biodiversity and understand the processes that shape it. She is a Reader at the University of St Andrews where her group is engaged in questions that range from mm scale species interactions on coral reefs, to global biodiversity patterns across taxa.
Maria did her BSc at the University of Lisboa in Portugal, where she is originally from. She did her PhD at James Cook University in Australia, and held post-doctoral positions at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies, the University of Aveiro and the University of St Andrews. She joined the University of St Andrews as a Marine Alliance of Science and Technology Scotland Lecturer in 2012.
