Dr Murray Collins is Chancellor’s Fellow in Data Driven Innovation – Space and Satellite Analysis at the University of Edinburgh. He analyses satellite data for ecosystem monitoring, with a focus on mapping tropical forests and deforestation. He has worked across SE Asia (Cambodia, Sulawesi, Sumatra), and west/central Africa (Gabon and Sierra Leone), undertaking forest surveys and mapping. He has worked with policy-makers on land-use decision making, authoring the GLOBE review of Climate Legislation sections on forestry, and presenting this to governments assembled at the World Bank in 2014. Murray is also active in science communication: as Environmental Scientist in Residence Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, 2015-2017; and through the Edinburgh International Science Festival 2017 & 2018 at Dynamic Earth; as well as with Careers Hive; and Pint Of Science. He undertook the RSE Enterprise Fellowship 2017-2018, founding the satellite technology and consultancy company Space Intelligence.
