|

Stavroula is Senior Lecturer in Social Anthropology at the University of St Andrews with a background in performance and ethnomusicology. She has conducted research in Italy on linguistic minority governance and child displacement, in Greece on nationalism and refugee identity, in Scotland on vulnerable populations and civil society, and in Brazil on indigenous access to education. She approaches minorities not as victims of unequal power relations, rather as meaningful political actors who utilize their resources to draw attention to their cause.

Stavroula is Founding Director of the Centre for Minorities Research (CMR). The CMR is an interdisciplinary platform operating across seven Schools on the intersectionality of minority experience. The CMR engages in collaborative research, funding bids, hosts local and international events, a seminar series and podcasts, student-led blogs and socials, and outreach and engagement activities.

As a YAS member, Stavroula is interested in interdisciplinary engagement on access to and development of digital education for disadvantaged children in Scotland across ‘Equal’, ‘Smart’ and ‘Sustainable’ themes. YAS will facilitate expertise and networks to better address local educational needs alongside global technological demands.
