Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to accessibility

We are committed to making this website accessible to everyone, regardless of technology or ability. We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). We also aim to meet the requirements of the Equality Act 2010.

The website is built using code that complies with W3C standards for HTML and CSS, and is optimised for use in current browsers. Whilst we endeavour to support older browsers where possible, this cannot always be guaranteed.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA, due to the non-compliances listed in the “Known accessibility issues” section below.

Adapting the website to your needs

We have made this website as usable as we can, but you might have a better experience by changing the settings on your computer or browser to suit your individual needs. This website has been designed to enable you to:

  • Increase and decrease font size.
  • Change colours and contrast.
  • Zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen.
  • Navigate the website using the keyboard.
  • Navigate using speech recognition software.

Most common browser include many features to make the browser and web content accessible to all users. For more details see the accessibility page of the following browsers:

Additional advice on how to make your device or browser easier to use if you have a disability can be found on the AbilityNet website.

Custom accessibility tools

In addition to your browser’s built-in features, this website includes a custom Accessibility Tools widget. A full guide to using these tools is available on our Accessibility Tools User Guide page. In summary, the widget provides the following options:

Display modes

  • Light Mode – traditional bright background with dark text, automatically applied if your device is set to light mode.
  • Dark Mode – dark background with light text, which reduces eye strain in low-light conditions and saves battery on OLED screens. Automatically applied if your device is set to dark mode.
  • High Contrast Mode – maximum difference between text and background, particularly helpful for users with low vision.
  • Greyscale Mode – removes all colour from the page, reducing visual complexity and aiding some types of colour blindness.

Text controls

  • Normal, Large, and Extra Large text sizes – text can be increased to make reading more comfortable.
  • Bold Text – makes all text heavier and more legible, which can help with reading difficulties.

Visual aids

  • Large Cursor – increases the mouse pointer size by approximately three times, helping users with visual tracking or motor difficulties.
  • Highlight Links – adds a yellow background and underline to all clickable links, making them easier to identify without relying on colour alone.
  • Hide Images – hides images and shows their alternative text descriptions instead, which is useful for users who find images distracting or who prefer to focus on text.
  • Reading Mask – dims the page except for a band around your cursor, creating a spotlight effect. This is particularly helpful for users with dyslexia, ADHD, or visual tracking difficulties.

All settings are automatically saved in your browser and remembered on your next visit. No personal data is collected or sent to our servers.
