Hosea 6.3
Opening
Come, let us sing
1 Come, let us sing to the Lord; *
let us shout for joy to the rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before the presence of the Lord with thanksgiving *
and raise a loud shout to God with psalms.
3 For you, O Lord, are a great God, * and a great sovereign above all gods.
4 In your hand are the caverns of the earth, * and the heights of the hills are yours also.
5 The sea is yours, for you made it, *
and your hands have moulded the dry land.
6 Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee, * and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
7 For you are our God, and we are the people of your pasture and the sheep of your hand. *
Oh, that today we would hearken to your voice!
8 “Harden not your hearts, *
as your forebears did in the wilderness.
9 They put me to the test, * though they had seen my works.
10 So I swore in my wrath, *
‘They shall not enter into my rest.’”
Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;*
as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever.
Amen.
or
Glory be to God, Source of all Being, Eternal Word, and Holy Spirit;*
as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever.
Amen.
or a suitable Hymn
(Or from Psalm 85)
1. I will listen to what you, Lord God, are saying, *
for you are speaking peace to your faithful people and to
those who turn their hearts to you.
2. Truly, your salvation is very near to those who fear you,
that your glory may dwell in our land.
3. Mercy and truth have met together; *
righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
4. Truth shall spring up from the earth,
and righteousness shall look down from heaven.
Amen.

Psalm 141
1. O Lord, I call to you; come to me quickly; *
hear my voice when I cry to you.
2. Let my prayer be set forth in your sight as incense, *
the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
3. Set a watch before my mouth, O Lord, *
and guard the door of my lips.
4. Let not my heart incline to any evil thing. *
Let me not be occupied in wickedness with
evildoers, nor eat of their choice foods.
5. Let the righteous smite me in friendly rebuke; let not the oil of the unrighteous anoint my head; *
for my prayer is continually against their wicked
deeds.
6. Let their rulers be overthrown in stony places, *
that they may know my words are true.
7. As when a farmer turns over the earth in furrows, *
let their bones be scattered at the mouth of the
grave.
8. But my eyes are turned to you, Lord God; *
in you I take refuge; do not strip me of my life.
9. Protect me from the snare which they have laid for me *
and from the traps of the evildoers.
10. Let the wicked fall into their own nets, *
while I myself escape.
Amen.
Psalm 142
1. I cry to the Lord with my voice; *
to you I make loud supplication.
2. I pour out my complaint before you *
and tell you all my trouble.
3. When my spirit languishes within me, you know my path; *
in the way wherein I walk they have hidden a trap
for me.
4. I look to my side and find no one who knows me; *
I have no place to flee to, and no one cares for me.
5. I cry out to you, O Lord; *
I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of
the living.”
6. Listen to my cry for help, *for I have been brought very low;
save me from those who pursue me, * for they are
too strong for me.
7. Bring me out of prison, * that I may give thanks to
your name;
when you have dealt bountifully with me, * the
righteous will gather around me.

Reading(s)
Isaiah 49.7-13
Thus says the Lord,
the Redeemer of Israel and his Holy One,
to one deeply despised, abhorred by the nations,
the slave of rulers,
‘Kings shall see and stand up,
princes, and they shall prostrate themselves,
because of the Lord, who is faithful,
the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.’
Thus says the Lord:
In a time of favour I have answered you,
on a day of salvation I have helped you;
I have kept you and given you
as a covenant to the people,
to establish the land,
to apportion the desolate heritages;
saying to the prisoners, ‘Come out’,
to those who are in darkness, ‘Show yourselves.’
They shall feed along the ways,
on all the bare heights shall be their pasture;
they shall not hunger or thirst,
neither scorching wind nor sun shall strike them down,
for he who has pity on them will lead them,
and by springs of water will guide them.
And I will turn all my mountains into a road,
and my highways shall be raised up.
Lo, these shall come from far away,
and lo, these from the north and from the west,
and these from the land of Syene.
Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth;
break forth, O mountains, into singing!
For the Lord has comforted his people,
and will have compassion on his suffering ones.
Colossians 1.9-20
For this reason, since the day we heard it, we have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God. May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from his glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience, while joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; for in him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers—all things have been created through him and for him. He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of his cross.

Song of Zechariah
Song of Zechariah Antiphon: You will guide us with your counsel, O God: * and, after, receive us with glory. To us is born a Saviour,* * Christ the Lord.
1 Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel,* for he has come to his people and set them free.
2 He has raised up for us a mighty saviour,* born of the house of his servant David.
3 Through his holy prophets he promised of old* that he would save us from our enemies, from the hands of all that hate us.
4 He promised to show mercy to our forebears,* and to remember his holy covenant.
5 This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:* to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
6 free to worship him without fear,* holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life.
7 You my child shall be called the prophet of the Most High,* for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
8 to give his people knowledge of salvation* by the forgiveness of all their sins.
9 In the tender compassion of our God* the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
10 to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,* and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;*
as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever.

Psalm 143
1. Lord, hear my prayer, and in your faithfulness heed
my supplications; *
answer me in your righteousness.
2. Enter not into judgement with your servant, *
for in your sight shall no one living be justified.
3. For my enemies have sought my life; they have crushed me to the ground; *
they have made me live in dark places like those
who are long dead.
4. My spirit faints within me; *
my heart within me is desolate.
5. I remember the time past; I muse upon all your
deeds; *
I consider the works of your hands.
6. I spread out my hands to you; *
my soul gasps to you like a thirsty land.
7. O Lord, make haste to answer me; my spirit fails me; *
do not hide your face from me or I shall be like
those who go down to the Pit.
8. Let me hear of your loving-kindness in the morning,
for I put my trust in you; *
show me the road that I must walk, for I lift up my
soul to you.
9. Deliver me from my enemies, O Lord, *
for I flee to you for refuge.
10. Teach me to do what pleases you, for you are my God; *
let your good Spirit lead me on level ground.
11. Revive me, O Lord, for your name’s sake; *
for your righteousness’ sake, bring me out of
trouble.
12. Of your goodness, destroy my enemies and bring all my foes to naught, *

Conclusion
Philippians 2
1. Let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus:*
the divine nature was his from the first:
2. Yet he did not grasp at equality with God;*
he emptied himself and became like a slave.
3. Taking the nature of man he was revealed in human form;*
he humbled himself and became obedient even to death,
death on a cross.
4. Therefore God has raised him on high,*
and has given him a name above every other name;
5. So that in the name of Jesus every knee shall bow,*
in heaven, on earth, and in the depths;
6. And every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord;*
to the glory of God the Father.
Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;*
as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever.
Amen.

Reading(s)
Luke 2.41-52
Now every year his parents went to Jerusalem for the festival of the Passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up as usual for the festival. When the festival was ended and they started to return, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. Assuming that he was in the group of travellers, they went a day’s journey. Then they started to look for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem to search for him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him they were astonished; and his mother said to him, ‘Child, why have you treated us like this? Look, your father and I have been searching for you in great anxiety.’ He said to them, ‘Why were you searching for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?’ But they did not understand what he said to them. Then he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. His mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and in years, and in divine and human favour.
