Many charges offer food for sale, for example at fund-raising events, or provide food voluntarily as part of a community activity. Unfortunately, there are several instances in which the unsafe handling of food has led to cases of food poisoning. The Scottish Episcopal Church has provided comprehensive guidance on how to meet the requirements of the food safety regulations.

The most important message to take is that it is a legal requirement that those involved in preparing or handling food which is supplied to others are trained in food hygiene to a level appropriate for their job.

The Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland is a long established awarding body in Scotland for qualifications in Food Hygiene, Food and Health, HACCP, Control of Infection, Occupational Health and Safety and First Aid. You can find information about their community training here.
